ROKPA International planea viajar al Tíbet

En julio de 2011, ROKPA International planea llevar de visita a un grupo a muchos de los lugares de importancia espiritual en las zonas del Tíbet oriental (de la China). El viaje incluirá visitas a los lugares donde nacieron los Karmapas I, II, VII, VIII, X, XI, XIV, XVI y XVII, así como los monasterios que establecieron el primer Karmapa, Dusum Khyenpa, y el segundo, y otros monasterios y lugares de importancia espiritual.

Este viaje será único por acceder a lugares sagrados para la escuela Kagyu, que podemos visitar gracias al trabajo de Rokpa en dichos lugares – muchos de ellos no están accesibles o abiertos a los turistas normales. heard the electrifying news of protests by Tibetan students in Rebkong, eastern Tibet.

Last month – while we were in India training 50 young Tibetan and Indian students in the art and strategy of non-violent resistance – we heard the electrifying news of protests by Tibetan students in Rebkong, eastern Tibet.

The students were protesting the Chinese government’s decision to replace Tibetan with Chinese as the language of instruction in Tibetan schools by 2015.

In the following days, the protests spread as more than 8,000 students – some as young as 13 – took to the streets to defend their fundamental right to study in their mother tongue. Watch a compilation of Radio Free Asia’s footage of the protests.
Language forms the foundation of Tibet's unique and vibrant culture; to deny Tibetans their language is an attack on their fundamental human rights. Overnight, language became a flashpoint of cultural resistance inside Tibet, and has sparked a solidarity movement worldwide.

This Wednesday, SFT held an event titled, In My Mother Tongue: Freedom Through Language. Ven. Lobsang Monlam, the creator of the Monlam Tibetan Unicode, gave an inspiring presentation about new digital tools he has helped develop – including the newly released Tibetan keyboard for iPhone 4.2 – that are helping to elevate the global status of the Tibetan language.

The event was part of SFT’s Renaissance Series, launched this summer to promote the writings, poetry, music, and other works of art and literature banned in Chinese-occupied Tibet.



In spite of China’s escalated repression following the widespread protests in 2008, there is a cultural renaissance underway in Tibet. Writers, musicians, and intellectuals are boldly asserting their views as a form of resistance to China’s colonial occupation. Tibetans in Tibet and in exile are reclaiming their language as part of this renaissance.

Through grassroots action and digital innovation, we can help ensure the Tibetan language flourishes, withstanding attacks from the Chinese government.

Together, we can help Tibetans in Tibet stop this disastrous mine from further endangering their livelihoods.

Yesterday, Tibetans and their supporters took action at the Toronto Stock Exchange to call for divestment from China Gold International Resources. SFT members also delivered petitions to the company's headquarters in Vancouver, Canada. Further actions are planned this week in Hong Kong, following the company's new listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

China Gold International Resources is the overseas arm of China Gold Group Corp – one of China’s largest state-owned mining companies and a company that has been operating in Gyama (Chinese: Jiama), near Lhasa, Tibet, for a number of years. The company has recently listed on the Toronto and Hong Kong stock exchanges and is trying to finance its operations with foreign support.
In 2009, Tibetans in Gyama protested the contamination of water resources and the resettlement of nomads as a result of the mine operations. Tibetans clearly do not want this mine. By stepping up the pressure now, we can help stop China Gold and other foreign companies from profiting off Tibetan lands.

Aceh es la única provincia en Indonesia que autorizó de manera explícita con una ley nacional la adopción de normas derivadas del islam. "Estas dos leyes niegan los derechos de las personas a tomar sus propias decisiones sobre con quién reunirse y cómo vestirse", dijo Elaine Pearson, subdirectora para Asia de Human Rights Watch. "Las leyes y su aplicación selectiva constituyen una invitación al abuso". Agentes de policía de la Sharia se valen de una interpretación muy abierta de la ley de "reclusión" para prohibir actividades como sentarse y charlar en un espacio "tranquilo" con una persona del sexo opuesto con la que uno no está casado ni relacionado, independientemente de si existan evidencias de intimidad. Entre los serios abusos que ha documentado Human Rights Watch en virtud de esta ley se destacan interrogatorios agresivos, la imposición del matrimonio como condición para que la persona sospechosa sea puesta en libertad y, en un caso, la violación de una mujer por la policía de la Sharia mientras permanecía detenida. Autoridades representantes de la ley islámica le dijeron a Human Rights Watch que a veces obligan a las mujeres y niñas a someterse a exámenes de virginidad como parte de la investigación. Miembros de la comunidad también identifican, detienen y castigan, por propia iniciativa, a los sospechosos de haber violado estas leyes, tal como permiten en ciertas circunstancias las leyes locales de Aceh. En varios casos, miembros de la comunidad determinaron arbitrariamente que los sospechosos eran culpables de "reclusión", y los atacaron, golpeándolos severamente o quemándolos con cigarrillos durante su aprehensión. Transmita por radio Free Asia: el 24 de noviembre que las autoridades en Kanlho, Gansu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture ha aumentado vigilancia en escuelas secundarias tibetanas siguiendo una protesta en pequeña escala en apoyo del lenguaje tibetano en escuelas sobre el fin de semana. Las fuentes tibetanas locales dijeron que un grupo de dos o tres estudiantes caminaron  cerca de una milla, llevando un estandarte blanco y gritando esloganes exigiendo independencia del Tíbet. Clamp down in Tibetan schools after fresh language protests

Radio Free Asia reported on November 24 that authorities in Kanlho, Gansu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture have stepped up surveillance in Tibetan high schools following a small-scale protest in support of Tibetan language in schools over the weekend. Local Tibetan sources said that a group of two or three students walked for about a mile, carrying a white banner and shouting slogans calling for independence of Tibet. Missing Tibetan writer traced to detention center in Barkham County

According to a report by Radio Free Asia, noted Tibetan writer Tashi Rabten (pen name: Theurang), arrested on April 6 and missing since then, is being held at a detention center in Barkham County, Ngaba Tibet Autonomous Prefecture. Sources said that authorities have not allowed family members to visit him but allowed delivery of food and clothes. It is believed that Tashi might be tried soon but little is known of what the charges might be.  Read the complete story . . .

U.S. State Department releases 2010 International Religious Freedom Report

The U.S. State Department released its annual International Religious Freedom Report on November 17.  The report stated that the United States continues to be concerned for the preservation and development of the Tibetan people's unique religious, cultural and linguistic heritage, and the protection of their fundamental human rights.  The report also found that the Chinese Government's control over religious practice and day-to-day management of monasteries and other religious institutions continues to be extraordinarily tight.  Read the full text of the Tibet section of the report . . .



EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT:

European Parliament adopts resolution in support of a genuine bilingual language policy in Tibet

The European Parliament adopted a resolution on November 25 in support of a language policy in Tibet in which all subjects can be taught in Tibetan language. The resolution was passed during a plenary session and a press release issued by the European Parliament said, "MEPs urge the Chinese authorities to support a genuine bilingual language policy, in which all subjects can be taught in the Tibetan language. They condemn the increased crackdown on the exercise of cultural, linguistic, religious and other fundamental freedoms of the six million Tibetan people as well as the Chinese authorities' plan to make Chinese the main language of instruction in Tibet."  Read the complete report . . .
