The Power of Aspiration: Making Spiritual Habits that Last a Lifetime with Lama Zopa Borodin
We want to lead a spiritual life, but discipline can be difficult for us. Doubts about our own worthiness or the effectiveness of spiritual practice can derail our spiritual journey. Aspiration is a powerful method to dispel these doubts and place us firmly upon the Dharma path. This teaching is inspired by "The Aspiration of Excellent Conduct," the most important aspiration prayer in Tibetan Buddhism.
Taught in English; fee by donation only.

March 8-17
Karma Pakshi Retreat with Lama Kathy Wesley

The 16th Karmapa gave this practice to Western students who completed Ngondro. This special ten-day retreat includes instruction and a practice retreat. $120/$96 KTD members

Karma Pakshi Empowerment with Lama Karma Drodhul

March 22-24
Lojong: Seven Points of Mind Training with Lama Pema Tsewang
The Tibetan word for "mind training," Lojong is an antidote to emotional pain and suffering. Taught by the head resident lama of Thrangu Monastery Canada, the practice is revered throughout Tibet as containing the essence of the Buddhist teachings, including helpful Dharma slogans we can use in times of need.  Translator: Jigme Nyima $120/$96 KTD members
Also on the Horizon:
Many of us connected to KTD have dreams in the back of our mind of the day when our busy "real world" schedule will clear and we can think about living at the Monastery temporarily, helping out in some capacity; in the coming months we will be sending out notices to fill temporary jobs at KTD, some for as little as a month, some considerably longer.

Thursday, March 7th, 7:00pm, Student Center Room 202
Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, 106 New Scotland Avenue, Albany

The Science of Meditation Dialogue between Lama Karma Drodhul and Dr. Galle Desbordes is the first collaborative event to result from a relationship between Karma Triyana Dharmachakra and the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences that has been taking shape over the last year.

The relationship began when Prof. Michael Pittman, Chair of the Department of Humanities and Communication at ACPHS, began bringing his Religious Studies students to KTD's Introduction to Meditation classes.

While on a visit to KTD with his students, Professor Pittman told us about his own interests in the religious dimensions of healing and how they had converged converged with the interests of his colleague Professor William Millington, Chair of the Pharmaceutical Sciences Department, in the cross-pollination of Eastern and Western approaches to healing.

At our invitation, Professor Millington came to KTD to attend Khenpo Ugyen Tenzin's 2012 teachings on Preparing for Death, Paltul Rinpoche's teachings on Basic Principles Of Tibetan Medicine, and our Introduction to Meditation class.

During our conversations with Professors Pittman and Millington, it became clear that there was more than enough overlap between their work at ACPHS and KTD's new initiatives in Pastoral Care; Children, Trauma, and Violence; and Educational Outreach to make collaboration between our two institutions natural.

The Science of Meditation Dialogue is the first such collaboration; we intend it to be followed by other public conversations on other issues between ACPHS faculty and representatives of KTD.
