Thich Nhat Hanh-La Muerte es una Ilusión

Papa Francisco

MADRID, 14 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Neuroscience meets Meditation

Lama Zopa, Shrine Room Albany KTC
Representing KTD monastery, Lama Zopa Borodin of Albany KTC joined Gaelle  Desbordes, Ph.D., a Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School, to discuss the latest neuroscience research about the effects of meditation practice on areas of the brain related to emotions and other mental responses.

Desbordes' research showed that there were physical changes in the brains of meditators who did either basic Shamatha or Loving-kindness meditation, in contrast to the absence of physical changes in the brains of the non-meditating control group. Reductions in depression and anxiety were some of the psychological results for the meditators in the experiment.

Before the panel discussion with Gaelle Desbordes, Lama Zopa led a large group of professors and students from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in three Shamatha meditation methods. At the panel discussion, Lama Zopa told the audience that he himself had been a guinea pig in a neuroscience experiment at NYU (New York University). Despite the electrodes on his head and the noisy chaos when he was inside the MRI scanner, he actually enjoyed his experience.
