3 days left to bid in Art for Tibet Online Auction; Tibet in Song screens in NY till Oct 7

Last week, while hounding Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao in New York City, we hosted Art for Tibet II, a celebration of art, culture, and Tibetan resistance.

The exhibit, also a benefit event for SFT, featured the works of over a hundred artists from around the world, including several Tibetan contemporary artists. Though the gallery exhibit is over, the ONLINE AUCTION is still continuing till 11pm on MONDAY, OCTOBER 4TH: http://artfortibet.org

There are dozens of valuable and affordable artworks still available. So don't miss your chance to take part in this memorable event. START BIDDING NOW: http://artfortibet.org

Art for Tibet, while different in appearance from SFT’s trademark high-profile protests, serves the same purpose of empowering the Tibet movement while educating new audiences about the Tibet issue. It is also a reflection of the growing cultural movement in Tibet through which Tibetans are asserting their identity and expressing their desire for freedom through the use of music, poetry, literature and other forms of art.

One of the highlights of Saturday's event was a series of live performances that brought the 5-day show to a crescendo. Tibetan artist Lobsang Choephel painted the Tibetan word 'Lokdo' (Return) on canvas in sprawling calligraphy, a symbolic call to political action that will allow Tibetans to return to a free Tibet. Chungpo Tsering’s performance piece, “Black Hat Dance,” delighted and astounded the audience. Watch a short video of the performance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmvxc_ktrIQ

We were honored to have some of the biggest names in Tibetan contemporary art including Pema Rinzin, Gonkar Gyatso, Tenzing Rigdol, Tsherin Sherpa, Rabkar Wangchuk and Karma Phuntsok display their works alongside internationally recognized artists Shepard Fairey, Richard Gere and Ben Baker. Many of their pieces are still available in the Online Auction: http://artfortibet.org.

We thank all the artists who participated in this event. While their freedom allowed them to produce their artworks, their art is helping to advance the Tibetan people's struggle for freedom.

REMINDER TO THOSE IN NEW YORK: "Tibet in Song" screening at Cinema Village has been extended till Thursday, October 7th. If you haven't seen the film yet, please watch it this week and help fill the theater so that the film will travel to other cities and be seen by thousands of potential Tibet supporters.

Thank you,
Tendor
