Let's Reach 40,000 Signatures for Tenzin Delek's Release by June 16th! Dear friend,
We're so close to reaching our goal of 40,000 signatures by June 16th for the release of revered Buddhist teacher and community leader Tenzin Delek Rinpoche, a prisoner of conscience serving a life sentence for crimes he did not commit.
33,944 people have already signed the petition. Have you? If not, please sign here now: http://www.freetenzin.org/.
After 7 years in Chinese prison, Tenzin Delek's health has deteriorated and we understand he is suffering from high blood pressure and heart disease. In December 2009, in a remarkable appeal for his release, members of Tenzin Delek's family attempted to deliver a petition signed by 40,000 Tibetans in Lithang, eastern Tibet (many of the signatures were in the form of thumbprints) to the Chinese government.
Despite being stopped en route to Beijing, their message was heard worldwide. To support the courageous efforts of the Tibetans in Lithang and to intensify international pressure for Tenzin Delek's release, Tibetans in exile and their supporters launched a similar petition with the goal of also collecting 40,000 signatures.
Next Wednesday, June 16th, Tibetans and their supporters will deliver the petition to Chinese embassies and consulates in cities around the world, including Sydney, Tokyo, Berlin, Paris, London, New York, Washington, D.C., Toronto, and many more. We will also launch an international fax action campaign targeting Chinese officials in Beijing. We know we can reach our goal of 40,000 signatures by June 16th, but we need your help.
Please take these 3 Simple Actions before June 16th: 1. Sign the petition: http://www.freetenzin.org/ 2. Spread the word on Facebook, Twitter, and other social networking sites: http://is.gd/cJc4x 3. Watch & share a short video appeal for Tenzin Delek: http://vimeo.com/11527575
